Weekend Go-Tos for August 26, 2016

Chris Hoff & Sam Harnett present bizarre sounds loud and live this weekend at The Lab in San Francisco.

It’s Friday afternoon, the weekend mere hours away, and in case you’re not prepared, here are a few one-of-a-kind events happening around the Bay Area this weekend.

Tomorrow, in honor of the 60th birthday of Oakland Fairyland’s Storybook Puppet Theater, the park will host Forbidden Puppet Cabaret, a special evening show for adults featuring performances by some of the Bay Area’s most creative puppeteers, starting at 6:00 p.m. There will also be special kid-friendly puppet performances at Fairyland throughout the weekend in celebration of the puppet theater hitting the big 6-0. Find details about all performances at fairyland.org.

Calling all audiophiles and lovers of sound. Tomorrow evening, the producers behind The World According to Sound, which you hear on Friday’s during Morning Edition on KALW, are bringing their show to the stage at the Lab in San Francisco. They’ll present a variety of sounds from all over the world paired with short stories, live, all on a really great sound system. Show begins at 7:30 p.m., tomorrow, at 2948 16th Street. You can grab a ticket now at theworldaccordingtosound.org.

We’ve heard a lot of coverage of the National Park Centennial this week, and now, this Sunday, everyone is invited to explore national parks in the Bay Area for free. Participating Bay Area parks include Muir Woods in Marin County, the San Francisco Maritime National Park on Hyde St. Pier, and a personal favorite of mine: Pinnacles, south of Gilroy, off the 101. These parks will waive all fees all day on Sunday. Find the full list of participating National Parks at nps.gov.

Is there an event happening this weekend that you'd like folks to know about? Feel free to add it below in the comments section.
