Weekend Go-Tos for July 8, 2016

Punk Icon Alice Bag performs with her new band this weekend in SF and Oakland.

Our roundup of suggested events to check out this weekend around the Bay Area.

If your summer has woefully lacked dancing in public so far, tonight in Point Richmond, there is a solution. This evening's edition of Point Richmond's Summer Music Festival features the sounds of New Orleans and Zydeco. From 5:30 onwards, MJ’s Brass Boppers Brass Band from Louisiana and Northern California's own Zydeco Flames will be blasting music into the streets of the neighborhood. All are welcome to attend. The festivities will be based at Washington and Cottage Avenues in Richmond, and you can find information for the entire concert series at pointrichmondmusic.org.

Punk icon and musician, Alice Bag is in town this weekend with her new band. She'll perform tomorrow night at El Rio on Mission Street in San Francisco with the bands Quaaludes and Midnight Snaxxx. Show starts at 9PM, and the event is 21 and over. Check out her full performance schedule at alicebag.com.

On Sunday, composer and percussionist SukiO'Kane will present a new site-specific work "Sweeping, Swept, Out of My Head": an intersection of film, music and public art, this time with new inventions in microcinema, movement, and a powerful desire to banish imagery that exists in her subconscious. For this performance Suki will be accompanied by Wayne Grim, Alfonso Alvarez, Sasha Hom, and more. The performance begins at 7:30pm, this Sunday at the Temescal Art Center in Oakland. The event is presented by Shapeshifters Cinema, a monthly series featuring experimental filmmakers and video artists presenting their work live with accompaniment from musicians and sound artists.
