Weekend Go-Tos for April 22, 2016

SF Urban Adventure Club
The Church of 8 Wheels goes purple all weekend.

Whether you’re looking to dance in commiseration to Prince jams, or celebrate environmental protection work done by people here in the Bay Area, we have you covered in this edition of Weekend Go-Tos.

If you haven’t been to the Church of Eight Wheels before, tonight might be your night. The San Francisco skating institution opens its doors at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate the life and music of Prince. Grab your purple sequined shirt and glitter leg warmers, and head to 554 Fillmore Street to skate out your sadness. If you’re not familiar with the Church of 8 Wheels, check them out at churchof8wheels.com.

This weekend, the 2016 Earth Day Film Festival will hold multiple screenings in San Francisco and beyond. Besides their environmentally-themed lineup of local films, the festival also runs on clean energy with zero waste goals. On Saturday night, they’ll screen the documentary The Edge of the Wild, with a presentation by the film’s director, Gail Mallimson, happening at the Mission Blue Baseball Field in Brisbane, at 7:30 p.m. You can find the full listing of films and venues at earthdayfilmfest.org.

2016 Bay Area Dance Week kicks off today, designed to increase awareness of the vast and varied dance opportunities at our toe-tips here in the Bay Area. During the week, dance companies, studios and schools open their doors to provide workshops, classes, performances, open rehearsals and lecture demonstrations for both the initiated and utter beginners. See the full list at bayareandw.org.
