Alan Farley passed away at a friend's home in San Francisco early Sunday morning.

Alan's passing is a huge loss for us here at KALW. He was a friend, a colleague, and a unique presence.
Alan's career at KALW spanned the station's transformation from its roots as a training institution to public service broadcaster. One interview at a time, he did incredible work to support the Bay Area's arts and cultural institutions.
So many people were touched by Alan’s voice, by his skill and generosity as an interviewer, and by his infectious enthusiasm for music and theater and books. In recent weeks, dozens of listeners shared their memories and appreciations of Alan. Those kind words meant a great deal to him in his final days.
A memorial is being planned, but a date and location have not yet been set.
