On this edition of Your Call: What are the demands of prisoners who are striking across the country?
In April, seven prisoners were killed at the South Carolina Lee Correctional Institution after officers failed to respond to deadly riots. In response, incarcerated leaders in the South Carolina prison system joined with allies in prisons across the country to demand a national strike. Their collective goals: “Humane living conditions, access to rehabilitation, sentencing reform and the end of modern day slavery.”
