One Planet: Coal Miners Suffering From Black Lung Disease Fight For Benefits

On this edition of Your Call’s One Planet Series, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hamby discusses his new book Soul Full of Coal Dust: A Fight for Breath and Justice in Appalachia.

Hamby details the tragic resurgence of black lung disease in Appalachia and exposes how mining companies have hired doctors and lawyers to help them deny much needed benefits to miners. Between 1995 and 2004, the disease killed 10,000 miners.
