Where Is East Oakland Documentary Screening

If you look on a city map of Oakland, West and North Oakland are marked, but not East Oakland. So where exactly is East Oakland?

KALW proudly presents the documentary short Where is East Oakland? Reporter and Oakland native Jeneé Darden looks at the culture and history of East Oakland to find the answer. The film features interews with prominent members in the community including artist Favianna Rodriguez,  Rev. Harry Williams, Liminal writing center Founder Gina Goldblatt and East Oakland Collective Executive Director Candice Elder. Zoë Mountain is the film's director. 

The documentary is premiering during the Oakland International Film Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21st, 3pm at Luka's Taproom and Lounge in Downtown Oakland.

Jeneé Darden is an award-winning journalist, author, public speaker and proud Oakland native. She is the executive producer and host of the weekly arts segment Sights & Sounds as well as the series Sights + Sounds Magazine. Jeneé also covers East Oakland for KALW. Jeneé has reported for NPR, Marketplace, KQED, KPCC, The Los Angeles Times, Ebony magazine, Refinery29 and other outlets. In 2005, she reported on the London transit bombings for Time magazine. Prior to coming to KALW, she hosted the podcast Mental Health and Wellness Radio.
