On this edition of Your Call, Guardian reporter David Smith will give us an update on Hurricane Dorian, which has devastated the Abaco Islands.
He reports that The Mudd, a shantytown that was home to the Bahamas’ biggest Haitian immigrant community, has been obliterated. It was built by thousands of Haitian immigrants over decades in Marsh Harbor on Abaco. It was wiped out in hours. Tourists and the wealthy rely on Haitians to maintain the island. They were able to leave before the hurricane hit. The poor had nowhere to go. Officials still don’t know how many people have died as bodies are still being found. How will governments around the globe deal with such stark inequality?
