What are the psychological, environmental, and economic costs of war? That’s the question a number of contributors explore in The War and Environment Reader, edited by Gar Smith.
The book provides critical analysis of the devastating consequences of militarism and the war on the environment. According to the UN, at least 40 percent of all intrastate conflicts involve the exploitation of natural resources. The Pentagon alone burns 320,000 barrels of oil a day. Smith says the US is the leading purveyor of war.
