Sights & Sounds: Sawyer Rose

Sawyer Rose

Sights and Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. This week, Jenee Darden sat down with artist Sawyer Rose to talk about three events happening around the Bay this weekend.

SOFT POWER features new works by 20 international artists at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. It’s an exhibition about how artists use their work to explore their roles as citizens, while examining the influence of culture, political values and foreign policies. On Thursday night at 7 p.m. most of these artists will participate in a discussion about the idea of soft power along with the concepts and processes of their work.

"Woman at War”is movie is about a 50-year-old Irish woman who pretends to live a quiet life, but is actually an environmental activist waging her own war against the local aluminum industry.  See it at the 2019 PROXY Fall Film Fest on Friday night in San Francisco.

The exhibit Sanctuary at Heron Arts in San Francisco features work by four very talented Bay Area female artists. The women use different mediums to create meditative works that inspire feelings of inner peace and mental refuge. The opening reception is on Saturday from 6-9 p.m.

Sawyer Rose is a sculpture, installation, and social practice artist. Her latest project Counting the Hours is on display now through November 2nd at Code & Canvas in San Francisco. The exhibit is about women's labor and how much of their lives they put into paid and unpaid work.
