Sports ReporterDemetrius “Meech” Johnson – Meech is a journalist, filmmaker, and podcast host from Vallejo, CA. He grew up in the inner city, raised by a single mother alongside two older brothers, and has always strived for something greater. Faith is a guiding force in his life, instilled by his mother, Mildred Stephenson.
He attended Jesse Bethel High School before studying Television, Film, and New Media at San Diego State University. During college, he struggled with financial difficulties and wrote a heartfelt letter to Will Smith, sharing his upbringing and aspirations. Smith read the letter and was so moved that he offered Meech an internship at Overbrook Entertainment and a scholarship to support his education.
Meech is passionate about storytelling and founded DJ’s 1Heart, aiming to bring filmmaking and creative opportunities to his hometown.
Now a journalist at 91.7 KALW, Meech is part of the Audio Academy (Sept 2024 – June 2025) and works as a sports reporter covering Bay Area sports and community culture. He produces in-depth audio features, documentaries, and news stories, conducting interviews with athletes and community leaders. His work focuses on the intersection of sports and culture, telling stories that matter to the people of the Bay Area.
Meech is also deeply involved in wrestling coverage as the co-host of The People’s Podcast with John Wiley under Wrestling Republic. He plans to return to podcasting and cover live wrestling events like WWE, AEW, and NorCal promotions. He is also developing The Growth of a Man Podcast, where he highlights personal stories of manhood and growth.
Beyond wrestling, Meech has expanded into covering Major League Table Tennis (MLTT), focusing on the Bay Area Blasters. He is working on a radio story featuring interviews with MLTT founder Flint Lane.
