After an info-packed press conference covering the state's nearly unfathomable budget shortfall, the "phased" rollout of its economic recovery, and a collection of counties that are trying to return to some kind of normalcy at different rates, Governor Gavin Newsom got lobbed a softball question about ... sports.
"What do you think sports will look like in the next couple months here in the state of California?"
He lined that one up, aimed for the goal line, swung for the fences, and swished the answer. Kind of.
As a sports fan, myself, I'm not quite sure what he's referring to by "offensive line man." Perhaps a rude road worker? He deserves the benefit of the doubt for saying he faces a "defensive line man."
Speaking of lines, less than a minute later, he dropped this one:
Yeah, it'll be nice to get back to watching sports agai... Wait a minute. Gavin Newsom's baseball career made him who he is today?
I had to look that one up. And it turns out our friends at NPR's Only A Game have this one covered.
Gavin Newsom earned a baseball scholarship to Santa Clara University. And he tells that story and many more (including what a big LeBron James fan his wife is: "You have to imagine the number one fan, the most extreme, multiply that by infinity") in this interview.
How about that?
