Binah: Social Justice Sewing Academy

Members of the Social Justice Sewing Academy share their stories—often related to issues like gender, discrimination, mass incarceration, gun violence and gentrification—through powerful imagery created in cloth.

Our guests are founder and executive director Sara Trail, core members Nancy Williams and Colleen Haraden, and artists Bryan Robinson, Juan Tapia and Ann Guiam.

Their exhibition Connecting Threads: Quilts from the Social Justice Sewing Academy is currently on view at the Katz Snyder Gallery at the Jewish Community Center, located at 3200 California Street in San Francisco, through November 4th.

The Social Justice Sewing Academy will also be holding a drop-in quilting workshop on Friday, October 12th, as part of Second Friday Shabbat series at the JCCSF. Check jccsf.org for more information.

David Kwan is the editor and producer of Binah, featuring remarkable artists and thinkers who’ve come to speak at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco as part of their Arts & Ideas program.
