The Spot: Us vs. Them

Robin Galante, http://www.robingalante.com.
The podcast Noctures shares a particular love song that is definitely NOT music to many human ears.

This week on KALW's showcase for the best stories from public radio podcasts and independent radio producers...

"Stuffed Shirts v. Blue Collars," produced by Todd Melby and Diane Richard as part of the documentary series Black Gold Boom, 2014.

Black Gold Boom: How Oil Changed North Dakota

The team at Black Gold Boom has interviewed folks from all over western North Dakota, gathering stories from those most affected by the oil boom there. You can find more short stories and audio at their website, including the interactive video journalism piece, Oil to Die For.

"(This is Not) A Love Song," produced by Vanessa Lowe for the podcast Nocturne, May 2015.

The locally-produced podcast Nocturne, explores the often overlooked and undisclosed stories that happen when the sun is nowhere in site. The show recently documented a bi-coastal nuisance, starting here in San Francisco.

You can find stories from Nocturne at their website. There, you’ll also find alinks to subscribe to the show, for whatever sort of podcatcher you like to use most.

Nocturne is also part of a new podcast collective called The Heard, which joins together other true-life storytelling podcasts like ARRVLS, First Day Back, and more. You can keep up to date with the collective on Twitter

This week's episode featured music from: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Boards of Canada, King Citymelodium, and Inez & Charlie Foxx.

If you have a suggestion for a podcast or an audio project we should feature, please drop us a line at thespot@kalw.org.

Tune in next week for another episode of The Spot, only on KALW San Francisco.
