Performance Artist Mica Sigourney: Sights & Sounds

Andria Lo

Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene. Performance artist Mica Sigourney, aka Vivvyanne Forevermore, will be hosting Vivvy's Grand Opening at The Stud on 2/9. He told KALW’s Jen Chien about three fantastic arts events happening around the Bay this week

trixxie carr is one of the Bay's favorite cis-female drag queens. A subculture celebrity, this faux queen has traveled internationally kicking open doors for herself and drag queens of all genders while also continuing to defy the status quo here in her hometown of San Fancisco. trixxie holds the title of Miss Tiara Sensation 2013 and has won every 'Best A** Contest' she ever entered, beginning her illustrious career at the infamous club Trannyshack, where the renegade queens truly ruled. She currently fronts rock and roll band Reverie while also writing her own music. Her song choices are always key, honoring her club kid heritage and love for bands like The Cure, Bowie and Siouxsie.

"She's a spectacular entertainer and a wonderful singer, and she has crazy chops on stage."

Dance Lovers is James Graham Dance Theatre‘s 7th annual Valentine's Day show. The evening offers an array of different artists, different couples from a mother and son to newlyweds, brothers, and best friends. Dance Lovers 7 is comprised of contemporary dance, hip-hop and vogue, contact improvisation, dance theater, and more. The show is curated and produced by James Graham Dance Theatre and will feature brothers Jocquese Whitfield & Spider doing vogue and hip-hop, husbands Melecio Estrella & Andrew Jones dancing together for the first time, and circus lovers Colin Creveling & Naomi Hummel performing their cheeky duo trapeze act.

"These are shorter duets based around the relationship between the people, it's an easy in and a nice way to get to see some dance."

Tragic Queendom is an Oakland drag community that throws  the “fiercest most extra” drag nights in the East Bay. The party's hosted by Beatrix LaHaine and will feature Mama Celeste, Miss Monstrosity, Mona Roll, Isentress, Atari Anime, Lisa Frankenstein, and a special appearance by Dusty Mirror. Join the Tragic Queendom crew this Valentine's season and celebrate lonely hearts moments by seeing some Valentine's drag that'll tear your heart apart

"Drag shows that deal with Valentine's Day are always the funniest and most ridiculous of the year because people always get super dark about it! They'll do a performance about STDs instead of about love...it's a good way to spend some time hating that holiday."
