Proposed Development In Alameda Has Residents Conflicted

Peter Schamoni, owner of Alameda Beauty Center will close up shop for good in the coming weeks.

A real estate company recently proposed a big development plan for Alameda South Shore Center. It has residents talking about the need for more housing, potential traffic problems and future of the island’s culture.

Usually the conversation about Bay Area development centers around San Francisco and Oakland — the big cities. But there’s lots of construction happening in smaller areas too, like Alameda. The recently proposed development plan for South Shore Center is on the minds of the island’s residents.

Real estate company Jamestown will have office hours to answer community questions on Thursday, Sep. 5, from 4 p.m. through 8 p.m. in Suite 280 at South Shore Center, across from See’s Candy.
