Radio superstar Al Letson is the host of Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting and the host of State of the Re:Union.
He joined Hana Baba in studio to talk about art with a purpose, diversity in public media, the culture shock of moving from the South to the Bay Area and his new one-man show based on the experience of teaching low-income black kids in Jacksonville, Florida.
AL LETSON: I was different than the black men they had been encountering... I read books of poetry and talked to them about things not in their universe.
Al Letson's one-man play "Summer in Sanctuary" starts October 21st at The Marsh theatre, in San Francisco.
