How did California become the third-biggest oil producing state?

In the last six years, the oil industry has spent more than $122 million on campaign contributions and lobbying to increase production, according to the Center for Public Integrity. With the help of Governor Jerry Brown and legislators, the oil industry has reshaped energy policy and undermined regulatory agencies. On Saturday, activists will march in Sacramento to demand elected officials stop taking money from the oil industry.
