On this edition of Your Call, we discuss Invisible Bars, a documentary about families caught in generational cycles of prison. Five million children in the US have at least one parent in prison, which increases their risk of depression, anxiety, drug addiction, and ending up in prison themselves.
In the film, we meet children who work on a Bill of Rights for the Children of Incarcerated Parents and are determined to break these cycles.
Guests:
John Beck, director of Invisible Bars
Zach Whelan, director of Project Avary, a San Rafael, CA-based organization that offers long-term support, resources, and training for children with incarcerated children
Cesar, community organizer and the child of incarcerated parents
