Wednesday 3/6 What’s the best way to deal with gang violence? We'll have a conversation with David Kennedy, author of Don't Shoot: One Man, A Street Fellowship, and the End of Violence in Inner-City America. Kennedy piloted the ceasefire program in Boston which reduced homicide rates by more than 60%. It has now been implemented in more than 70 cities across the country. Critics say it doesn't address the root causes of violence, but instead relies on stricter law enforcement. What do you think is the solution to gang violence?
Thursday 3/7 How is the US Navy's underwater sonar program affecting underwater life? For 20 years, the Navy has used underwater sonar (basically boxes that emit loud sound waves into the water) as part of Naval defense. But advocates of marine life, especially whales and dolphins, say the sonar is causing widespread and irreparable damage, even death for some animals in the ocean. They say that alternative technologies like satellites could be used to replace the sonar. So what's really happening? And what's at stake?
