Tuesday 3/5  What can we learn from UK Uncut's recent successes? That's the group that goes after corporations that don't pay taxes. Starbucks recently agreed to pay $35M in taxes after consumer anger came across "loud and clear." Brits are closing down their Amazon.com accounts because they're another tax avoider.  And G20 finance chiefs promise to "get tough" on multinational tax dodgers.  Why isn't there more of a focus on this issue in the US?  What informs American attitudes about taxes?  What would you want to see to put pressures on companies and individuals who don’t pay taxes?

Wednesday 3/6 What’s the best way to deal with gang violence?  We'll have a conversation with David Kennedy, author of Don't Shoot: One Man, A Street Fellowship, and the End of Violence in Inner-City America.  Kennedy piloted the ceasefire program in Boston which reduced homicide rates by more than 60%.  It has now been implemented in more than 70 cities across the country.  Critics say it doesn't address the root causes of violence, but instead relies on stricter law enforcement.  What do you think is the solution to gang violence?

Thursday 3/7 How is the US Navy's underwater sonar program affecting underwater life?  For 20 years, the Navy has used underwater sonar (basically boxes that emit loud sound waves into the water) as part of Naval defense.   But advocates of marine life, especially whales and dolphins, say the sonar is causing widespread and irreparable damage, even death for some animals in the ocean.  They say that alternative technologies like satellites could be used to replace the sonar.  So what's really happening?  And what's at stake?

Friday 3/8 Media Roundtable

Monday 3/11 How can a nation with so much food have so much hunger?  We'll interview the makers of the documentary, A Place at the Table, about hunger in the United States.  From the film's website: "50 million people in the U.S.-one in four children-don’t know where their next meal is coming from, despite our having the means to provide nutritious, affordable food for all Americans. Directors Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush examine this issue through the lens of three people who are struggling with food insecurity."  So what can we do about this?
