On this edition of Your Call, we talk about getting money out of politics.
More than $5 billion – a record – was spent on the 2018 midterm elections. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, super PAC spending more than doubled from the previous midterm cycle. Groups that don’t disclose their donors and shell corporations gave more than $176 million to super PACs and outside spending hybrid PACs. Over the years, several studies have shown that because of money in politics, the wealthy few move policies, while average citizens have little power. What will it take to reform the system and pass real campaign finance reform?
