1971: Marvin Gaye's critically acclaimed 'What's Goin' On' was released on this day. It went on to reach number two on the pop charts and number one on the R&B charts.
1945: The first African American Playmate, Jennifer Jackson, was born on this day in Chicago. The 5-foot-8 bunny was also the first black model to be featured in an ad for Lady Clairol, the first black woman to model for Avon cosmetics and Kool cigarettes

1993: Professional Tennis great, Arthur Ashe, passed away on this day. Mr. Ashe was the first African American player to compete in the International sport of tennis at the highest level of the game and was one of the most prominent players of his time. He also founded the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health before his death.
