One Planet: Impacts of palm oil production on climate change & health risks of wildfire smoke

A worker on an oil-palm plantation on Borneo.

On this edition of Your Call’s One Planet series, Propublica’s Abrahm Lustgarten will discuss how US demand for biofuels has devastated Indonesian rainforests, and caused a huge spike in carbon emission.

We'll also talk about the health impacts of wildfire smoke. An analysis of hospital data by Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting found that emergency room visits surged several months after last year’s California wildfires.

Guests:

Abrahm Lustgarten, senior environmental reporter at ProPublica

Aaron Glantz, senior reporter at Reveal

Susie Neilson, freelance journalist
