Sneak preview of new KALW podcast "The Stoop"
KALW's Hana Baba is African. KALW's Leila Day is African American. In between making radio stories and interviews for Crosscurrents, they've had MANY casual conversations on the side ... many of them about black identity.
"Why do so many black people have low Vitamin D? Do we need sun block?"
"Should African immigrants benefit from affirmative action?"
"I go to Africa and they say there's nothing African about me; what's up with that?"
"Tribal wear: appropriation or appreciation?"
"I'm in the media, and I'm tired of being asked to sound differently than I do!"
And MUCH more.
So Leila and Hana teamed up with editor Julie Caine and engineer Chris Hoff to make THE STOOP: where real conversations – about black issues that aren't openly discussed – meet funk, fun and hard reporting.
The project was selected for NPR's first-ever Storytelling Workshop.
Take a quick listen and stay tuned for more from THE STOOP!
