This week on a music-filled Open Air, host David Latulippe talks with Peninsula Symphony’s music director Mitchell Klein about this weekend’s concert featuring pianist Conrad Tao and a new work by composer Carolyn Bremer, who also joins us in-studio.
Then, a conversation with music director Urs Leonhardt Steiner and Chinese soprano soloist Yi Triplette, about the performance by the Golden Gate Symphony & Chorus of the oratorio-cantata ‘Ask the Sky and the Earth’ for large orchestra, solo voices and chorus, commemorating the 50th anniversary of China’s Cultural Revolution and the relocation of nearly 20 million urban young people from their homes and families to work on collective farms.
Also, historian Barbara Bergland and programmer Brad Rosenstein from the Presidio Trust talk about the history of the Military Bands in the San Francisco Presidio, which dates back to before the Civil War.
