The RYSE Youth Center is hosting its third annual film festival called Truth Be Told: Justice Through My Eyes, a showcase of films by up-and-coming young filmmakers.

Picture this: It’s the 1940s in North Richmond, California. The city is home to juke joints filled with the sounds of music. This is the setting for the new play Richmond Renaissance – written and performed by the youth at RYSE Center in Richmond.

Sights & Sounds is your weekly guide to the Bay Area arts scene through the eyes and ears of local artists. Our guest is Natasha Huey:  poet and teaching artist for youth through Performing Arts Workshop. Her poetry students from Galileo High school will perform in the Rhythm and Rhymes, youth showcase at Brava Theater later this month.

At the RYSE Youth Center in Richmond, there are classes in music, video production, visual arts, writing and acting. Every year, all the students come together to create a multimedia show, and they're the ones in charge of the whole event, from the concept to the actual production.
