Vickie Simms is a docent for the Pan American Unity Mural, painted by 20th-century artist Diego Rivera. Vickie gave up a business career to study art history, and this is a plum gig. The artwork is extraordinary. And Vickie’s pretty amazing, herself.

Have you ever wondered where you can find the murals by Mexican artist Diego Rivera in San Francisco? KALW listener Monzerrath Gonzalez has. So, KALW Reporter Sara Nora Koust went with her to San Francisco Art Institute to check one out.

City Visions host Joseph Pace talks to the curators of "Fertile Ground: Art and Community in California," a new exhibit of the Oakland Museum of California and SFMOMA.  The exhibit highlights four creative communities in the Bay Area that influenced the art world.  By weaving together the museums' holdings of California art and ephemera, "Fertile Ground" tells the stories of the artists and institutions that generated unique artistic innovation. 

The four key moments and communities featured are:

(Bay Citizen) // The $68 billion bullet train project, destined to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles, is facing criticism after it was discovered that the light rail authority enacted a new policy to destroy emails after a 90-day period. Five years of emails were deleted in the midst of multiple inquires from local government and opposition groups in search of information on the train’s progress.
