This week on Open Air, KALW’s radio magazine for the performing arts in the San Francisco Bay Area, host David Latulippe talks with Canadian piano virtuoso Hershey Felder (above, in character) who is currently at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley with his new program A Paris Love Story, in which he captures the life and music of impressionist composer Claude Debussy, and shares his own deeply personal connection to the City of Light and Debussy's music.

Four years ago, the University of California at San Francisco, in partnership with the San Francisco Department of Aging and Adult Services and 95-year-old Mission district institution Community Music Center, initiated a clinical trial to study the impact that singing in a choir can have on older adults.

At the Community Music Center in San Francisco, Mexican-born, musician and teacher Martha Rodriguez-Salazar helps students make music for the joy of it.

Miguel Garcia has tears in his eyes while he’s singing a an old Righteous Brothers tune. This song brings back memories. He’s wearing a red Manchester United jersey, navy blue track pants and bright green flip flops.  Sixty one year old Garcia is  used to having a microphone in front of him, so he begins belting out a medley of his favorite songs. He says that his past was at times, well, unhealthy.
