Following the 2016 presidential election, the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus decided to take their songs and message to the south. They toured areas of the southern United States with the most discriminatory anti-LGBTQ+ laws, and the experience was turned into a new award-winning documentary called Gay Chorus Deep South. KALW’s Truc Nguyen sat down with SFGMC artistic director and conductor Dr.
Twice a year the San Francisco Symphony hosts workshops called “Sing Out Davies”, as part of the symphony's Community of Music Makers program. For one evening, singers from around the Bay Area come together to make music as one. KALW's Alyssa Kapnik stood among them for a recent workshop and brought back their impressions of what it's like to be an ordinary person in such an extraordinary experience.
"Folk Music & Beyond" welcomed the VOENA childrens chorus to the KALW studios this past Saturday (8/17) at 3 pm. This globe-trotting choir has performed at the White House for Presidents Clinton and Bush, at the Vatican for Pope John Paul, and last year in London at the 2012 Olympics. If you missed their performance, watch it on YouTube!
