american roots music

Join us this Saturday (3/31) at 3 pm for a special concert recording with American roots artist Tim O'Brien and Lunasa, one of Ireland's leading traditional bands.  This concert was recorded last month in Berkeley at the Freight & Salvage.  The evening was lively, the songs were engaging, and the on-stage humor was unparalleled (in other words, cringe-worthy at times).  A good time was had by all!

The Irish-Appalachian Connection This Saturday

Nov 27, 2015

Join us for post-Thanksgiving music this holiday weekend!  Irish singer/flute player Nuala Kennedy and Appalachian roots musician A.J. Roach will be our special in-studio guests tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 pm on KALW's "Folk Music & Beyond."  While at first glance this may seem like an odd pairing, Nuala and A.J. have a lot in common.  The historical Ulster-Appalachian connection is at the heart of the music they make together.  The similarities between those traditions serve as a launching pad for their own musical vision.
