In September, federal funding runs out for San Francisco’s shelter-in-place hotels. These are the spots the city rented when the pandemic was surging, and there was a huge push to create safe spaces for people experiencing homelessness. For some unhoused people, it was the first time they had their own bed and bathroom in years. So now, the city is gradually transitioning around 2,000 people still living in these rooms into housing.
