Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Legacy & What's At Stake If Amy Coney Barrett Is Confirmed

Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

On this edition of Your Call, we’re discussing the future of the US Supreme Court since the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose last wish was not to be replaced until a new presidential term, according to her granddaughter.

Senate confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett are expected to begin on October 12. Senate Republicans are contradicting their own rule that no justice should be confirmed in a presidential year. If Barrett is confirmed, the Supreme Court will have an extremely conservative majority for decades to come. What’s at stake for the Affordable Care Act, reproductive rights, unions, the environment, and more?

Guests:

Mark Joseph Stern, reporter covering courts and the law for Slate and author of American Justice 2019: The Roberts Court Arrives

Mary Ziegler, professor at Florida State University College of Law specializing in the legal history of reproduction, sexuality and the Constitution, and author of several books, including Abortion in America: A Legal History, Roe v. Wade to the Present
