How are communities creating their own first responder teams?

On this edition of Your Call, we’ll hear from grassroots organizations that are keeping their neighborhoods safe when existing services aren’t enough.

Community medics are training one another to respond to emergencies before ambulances can. Violence interrupters in cities around the country work to contain street violence when it flares up, and to put an end to gun violence in the long term. How are citizens organizing to meet the needs of their communities?

Guests:

Tiffany Murray, Bedford-Stuyvesant program manager for Save Our Streets, a violence prevention group in New York City.

Sharena Thomas, co-founder of the People’s Community Medics, which trains community members to provide emergency first aid
