The Spot: Night Hike
This week on KALW's showcase for the best stories from public radio podcasts and independent radio producers...
The locally-produced podcast Nocturne, explores the often overlooked and undisclosed stories that happen when the sun is nowhere in site. Nocturne is a great example of essay radio, which is a hybrid form of audio storytelling that usually blends elements of documentary, fiction and sound-art.
So far on the show, Host Vanessa Lowe has presented the hidden politics of light pollution in the Bay Area, how to appreciate the critters that keep us up at night, and a night out with local drag performers.
Tonight, Vanessa walks into the darkness, alone, to take us on a personal, sonic journey through the woods at night. As you listen to her test the limits of her fears, I dare you not to consider the the complexities of your own.
Nocturne is a part of the independent podcast collective “The Heard,” which joins together other true life, storytelling podcasts like ARRVLS, Neighbors, First Day Back, and more. You can keep up to date with the collective on Twitter at theheardradio, or visit their website: theheardradio.com.

Tune in next week for another episode of The Spot, only on KALW San Francisco.
