The Spot: Nos aduolant

We're channeling our inner-Max Fischer on today's episode of "The Spot."

This week on KALW's showcase for the best stories from public radio podcasts and independent radio producers...

"Latin Lives!," produced by Helen Zaltzman for the podcast The Allusionist, February 2015.

Created and hosted by Helen Zaltzman, The Allusionist is her personal lexicological playground, with episodes focusing on the etymological history of the term “Gay Pride,” emojis as a language, and even the space between words. You can subscribe to The Allusionist right now through iTunes. You can also hear more from Helen, including her other podcast, Answer Me This! at her website.

Selections from the podcast Betty in the Sky with a Suitcase!, June 2015.

Helen recommended a podcast that I hadn’t heard of: Betty in the Sky with a Suitcase! So, of course, I immediately downloaded a bunch of episodes and spent the weekend listening through them. My verdict? It’s a delightful show that makes it easy to laugh about a subject that usually makes me very nervous: flying.

Betty is a flight attendant with a major airline, and her podcast features dozens of short stories from her experiences, and from other flight crew members from around the world. Just for you, I’ve mixed together some highlights from the show that I think you might enjoy. You can subscribe to Betty's show on iTunes.

This week's episode featured music from: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Mark Mothersbaugh, The Monitors, and James and Martha Carson.

If you have a suggestion for a podcast or an audio project we should feature, please drop us a line at thespot@kalw.org.

Tune in next week for another episode of The Spot, only on KALW San Francisco.
