Bay Area Theatre

Host: Joseph Pace

Producer: Lisa Denenmark

Historically the theater has been one of the ways people got information, engaged with others, and built community. Now, as theater competes with other and faster news sources, from the Internet to mic checks in the Occupy movement, what is the role of theater in the Bay Area? Who is going to the theater? What communities are seeing themselves reflected—or not? How are Bay Area theater organizations balancing their artistic visions with the unprecedented stress driven by the loss and reduction of financial support?  And how are they drawing in a new audience?
