Hear a different poet at 6:49 a.m. Monday - Thursday throughout the month of April, which is National Poetry Month. Today's poet is April reading, "A Poem for Mia." National Poetry Month was originally organized by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States.
For several years KALW has partnered with America Scores and the San Francisco United School District to bring you original poems written by young students, read in their own voice.
A Poem for Mia, by April
My life is filled with your smiles
I love it
And I can see it from a mile
I feel your heart
pounding next to mine
I see your eyes
Wide and bright
You are an everlasting light
You bring us all fun and joy
The days are slow
When you’re not here
I really wish that you were near
But when we go on adventures
You sit on my lap
And we try very hard not to take a nap
I love you Mia
My little sis.
