About 150 students from Burton High School formed the number 17 on their field in honor of the 17 victims of the shooting in Parkland, Florida.

People in passing buses applauded the students as they marched from City Hall through downtown streets. Many students raised fists to the air and stood in silence while the names of Parkland victims were read through a megaphone.

Different schools took part in different ways — there were morning assemblies at elementary schools.

Posters in the halls of Phillip & Sara Burton High School have orange posters promoting the March 14 walkout. It says, "We are here and we are united. We demand to see change in gun laws."

Students at Diablo High in Concord demonstrated after breaking through a gate administrators had locked before the 10 a.m. call to action.

We had two reporters stationed at San Francisco high schools this morning. ZeinaNasr went to June Jordan School for Equity, and AsalEhsanipour was here at Philip and Sala Burton High School, where the KALW studios are located.
