Bay Area Beats: Andre Thierry keeps Zydeco music evolving
In order to talk about Andre Thierry, first you have to talk about the godfather of Zydeco music, Clifton Chenier.
In the 1970s and 80s Chenier traveled from his home in Louisiana to Richmond,California to play for the Creole community that had settled there. And that’s where he met a young four- or five-year-old child that he swore would be a great talent. It was a prescient prediction. That child was Andre Thierry, the Grammy-nominated musician who has taken Zydeco places it has never been before. In this edition of Bay Area Beats, Thierry tells us why he’s on a mission to make accordion cool.
