Statewide forums seek input… Emerald Triangle now favors legalization… CBD & Kids: does it really work?... and more.

LEGALIZATION

Public input requested at forums // Reuters.com  Focus will be on three areas: legalization, taxation, and regulation. The first meeting is April 21 at UCLA, followed by one in San Francisco in May and ending with one in Fresno in June.

Lt. Gov. Newsom not afraid of backing reform // sfgate.com  “There’s a growing consensus” Newsom said, but acknowledged that “there are still about five different factions.”

Emerald Triangle growers now favor legalization //  news.Vice.com  “In a historic shift that reverses years of either opposing or ignoring attempts to end marijuana prohibition, pot farmers in California's legendary Emerald Triangle growing region have started mobilizing for the drug to be legalized statewide for recreational use in 2016.”

Race still a factor in marijuana arrests // usNews.com   Blacks still “far more likely” than whites to be arrested for marijuana related crimes in Colorado.  “There are other factors,” too, says the wonderfully named Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.

3 SF dispensaries help fund gun buyback day //  SFGate.com  “San Francisco’s medical marijuana dispensaries — long maligned as magnets for street crime and repeatedly targeted by federal raids in recent years — offered to step in last year,” and did the same this year.

More marijuana than they know what to do with // MMJbusinessdaily.com   “More than 26 million square feet of land in Arizona are approved for cannabis cultivation. If all were to be used, it would yield about 2.6 million pounds per year.”  [Maybe this should be under the “keep it under control” heading. – Ed.]

Suspended students “have higher rates of marijuana use // Newsmax.com   Schools that suspend students for pot use “have higher rates of marijuana use than schools with more consistent and less-punitive approaches, according to a new study.”  And guess what? They “suggest further research to follow this up.”
