D.C. legalization could “set off chain of events” // WRAL.com   Legalization of marijuana is becoming a race issue in Washington, DC. Blacks accounted for 90 percent of those arrested for marijuana possession in the nation’s capital in 2010, while comprising about half the district’s population.

COPS & COURTS

Marijuana arrests topped 20,000 in California last year // CaNORML.com   Nobody gets arrested for pot in California any more, right?  Tell that to the 13,779 people with felony arrests and the additional 6,567 with misdemeanor charges in 2013.

“Get your act together” DOJ attorney warns California // LATimes.com    “If you don’t want us prosecuting [marijuana users] in your state, then get your regulatory act together,” he said, adding that California must do a better job of stopping marijuana growth on federal lands.

First San Diego dispensary on track // UTsandiego.com   SDSU business professor could have city’s first medical marijuana outlet by year’s end. More are likely to open, following this approval.

US farmers bring in first hemp crop in nearly 60 years // High Country News  Getting seeds is seen as this biggest challenge, since federal law prohibits their transport across state lines.

Cannabrand ad agency loses client over New York Times story // The Cannabist.com   Recent NYT story alienates many in the industry. Founders offer clarification.  [This is a bit late, but worth including.]

HEALTH

THC appears to aid in survival after brain injuries // Reuters.com   “This data fits with previous data showing that (THC) may be neuroprotective,” says an author of the study.

Safety of Internet CBD products questioned // Project CBD    Concerns include toxins, and low levels of CBD. And their sale over state lines is most likely illegal in many instances.

Attorney suggests work-arounds for dispensaries without bank accounts // MJ Business Daily    He says it will literally take “an act of Congress” (legalizing cannabis) before banks feel comfortable working with this business sector.
