Hear Here’s story installation to pop up at the Oakland Museum of California Friday Oct 26

KALW’s community storytelling team Hear Here is showcasing stories from the residents of Oakland and San Francisco in a larger-than-life installation at the Oakland Museum of California next Friday, October 26 from 5pm-12am.

The mobile installation, which the team calls a “story tunnel,” features photos of locals who have contributed their story to the Hear Here project, along with a special link to their audio stories. Museum attendees are invited to walk through the installation, listen to the pieces, and record their answer to the question, “What’s a place in your neighborhood that’s special to you?” Answers will end up on Hear Here’s online audio map.

The Hear Here installation is just one part of OMCA’s final Summer Nights program of the year, which includes a special preview of the museum’s Gallery of California Natural Sciences and Halloween-themed activities like Days of the Dead tours, palm readings, a costume contest, and a screening of the classic film Night of the Living Dead.

The Hear Here installation will be at the Oakland Museum of California for one night only. To best listen to the stories featured on the Hear Here installation, download one of the following scanner apps –  and don’t forget your headphones:

For Android, try Barcode Scanner, available for free in the Google Play store.

For iPhone, try Scan, available for free in the iTunes store.

For Blackberry, try QR Code Scanner Pro, available for free in the Blackberry App World.

For those who do not have a smartphone, a listening station will be provided.

Hear Here is KALW’s community storytelling project, designed to illuminate life in Oakland and San Francisco. Our Hear Here producers are asking residents to tell us about their favorite places – and their lives – in these two cities. They share what they’ve learned on air, online, and on stage, drawing out the common threads that tie us together.
