Exploring this "latin" american life with KALW's Radio Ambulante

Radio Ambulante is a new Spanish-language podcast based at KALW. Crosscurrents host Hana Baba speaks with the host and co-founder of Radio Ambulante, local novelist Daniel Alarcón, about what inspired him to create a show that would bring new voices, new perspectives, and a new language to public radio:

DANIEL ALARCÓN: It is an accident of history that so many people from so many cultures and ethnicities speak Spanish, and can share these stories, and we want to take advantage of that historical accident to really create dialogue.

Radio Ambulante producer and reporter Nancy López will also tell the story of Daniel D. Portado, a character who created the idea of "self-deportation" as a joke back in the 90s.

Radio Ambulante was created by Daniel Alarcón, Carolina Guerrero, Annie Correal, and KALW's Martina Castro. The team includes Nancy López, Camila Segura, and Crosscurrents engineer Seth Samuel. The show is affiliated with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano in Colombia.
