Cannabis news roundup: September 4, 2012

(CourthouseNews.com)  // Harborside Health Center’s landlord in San Jose is asking a federal judge to stop HHC from growing or storing marijuana on the property, saying that they thought it was legal to operate such a dispensary when they originally leased the space. The move is an attempt to prevent the U.S. Dept. of Justice from seizing the property for harboring illegal activities.

(L.A.Times blog) // Fifty thousand signatures supporting a suspension of the L.A. dispensary ban are expected to be submitted later this week. That’s almost double the number required for a ballot measure, which means the ban could be suspended before it is enacted.

(Forbes.com) // Short-term memory loss has long been associated with smoking pot. But that clears up once the effect wears off, right? A long-term medical study from the National Academy of Sciences has determined that heavy marijuana consumption by adolescents can lower IQ levels, permanently.

(HuffPost) // Americans for Safe Access, a major pro-cannabis group, is actively campaigning against Barack Obama’s re-election, noting that more cannabis dispensaries have been raided during the first term of the Obama Administration than were closed under two terms of George W. Bush.
