California Watch // The Federal Election Committee recently passed a proposal to let consumers trade in loyalty program points for donations to their preferred political candidate. Now, regulators are reviewing Repledge.com, which would would make Republican and Democratic donations made through the Repledge system cancel each other out, redirecting the money to charities...

SF Chronicle // The season of San Francisco Giant Guillermo Mota has been redirected. He is being punished with a 100-game suspension after testing positive for the banned clenbuterol, a substance that can act as a stimulant and help build muscle mass. This is the second time that Mota has been caught using illegal substances; he served a 50-game suspension when he played with the New York Mets in 2007...

Inside Bay Area // While we're on the number 100, US News has ranked seven Bay Area high schools among the top 100 in the nation. The magazine examined whether the student body surpassed statistical expectations. Pacific Collegiate and Dublin High were among the 26 that were awarded the maximum 100 on a "college readiness" index...

SF Chronicle // In a different, and tastier, evaluation, Boulevard Restaurant in San Francisco has been named the nation's most outstanding restaurant by the James Beard Foundation. Chef-partner Nancy Oakes and partner Pat Kuleto received the award at the ceremonies at Lincoln Center. The honor recognizes ten years of excellence in food, service, and atmosphere. This is the first time that a West Coast restaurant has won in this category since 2006; other Bay Area winners have included the French Laundry, Zuni Cafe, and Chez Panisse...

SFist // And, in a different kind of sit-down dining experience, this weekend the Bay Area will host its first Taco Conf. The taco and bicycling conference will include speakers, as well as the opportunity for attendees to ride on a tour of Bay Area antojitos.
