Your Call Election Special: A debate on Proposition 61 and prescription drug pricing

Every Thursday through Election Day, Rose Aguilar will host a special second hour of Your Call at 11am focused on local and state elections, the voting system, and the democratic process in California.

This week, we'll host a debate on Proposition 61, the Drug Price Relief Act. It would prohibit state programs from paying more for prescription drugs than the Department of Veterans Affairs, which receives deep discounts. We'll also discuss the bewildering San Francisco ballot, which includes 25 local measures and Board of Supervisor, City College, and BART races. Why does San Francisco have so many issues on its ballot? And how should direct democracy work?

Guests:

Kathy Fairbanks, partner in the political public affairs firm Bicker, Castillo & Fairbanks, and spokeswoman for the No on Proposition 61 campaign

Garry South, Democratic political strategist, principal of The Garry South Group, and spokesman for the Yes on Proposition 61 campaign

Joe Eskenazi, senior editor of San Francisco Magazine
