Weekend Go-Tos for September 4, 2015

The SF ZineFest returns for its 14th year, bringing 200+ local artists to Golden Gate Park.

A reminder that this weekend, BART’s Transbay Tube will be closed between Embarcadero and West Oakland stations. To help you out, we have put together a short set of recommendations of things to do, no matter what side of the tube you find yourself. Here are your Weekend Go-Tos.

Tonight, Capitola welcomes the 63rdAnnual Begonia Festival. Throughout the weekend, you can expect live music, film screenings, sand sculpture competitions, and -- of course -- a whole lot of flowers. Celebrating the bloom of begonias in Esplanade Park, the party kicks off today until 9:00 p.m., and all-day Saturday and Sunday throughout the park. Find out more details at begoniafestival.com.

Looking to get down to good soul? This Saturday in Oakland is where it’s at! That’s even the name of an all-night dance party -- Where it’s At! -- happening at the Legionnaire Saloon on Telegraph Avenue. From 9:00 p.m. onwards on Saturday you can expect 60’s soul and 70’s funk records spinning -- yes, actual records -- alongside a welcoming dance floor. It’s free to attend, but, you must be at least 21 years old.

And, if you’re in San Francisco on Sunday, take a stroll down to Golden Gate Park for this year’s SF Zine Fest. If you, like me, love reading comics and zines from local, self-published writers and cartoonists, then SF Zine Fest is worth a visit. You can look forward to over 200 exhibiting artists, as well as a comfy reading room. The event is held in the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park at 9th Avenue, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. this Sunday. It’s also totally free to attend. You can find more info about special events happening around SF Zine Fest, as well as who will be exhibiting, at their website.

Is there an event happening this weekend that you'd like folks to know about? Feel free to add it below in the comments section.
