Happy Friday, everybody! We have a few recommendations of what to do around the Bay Area this weekend.
Our top pick, of course, is the KALWPublic Radio Party, happening tomorrow, Saturday October 10, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the CCSF Mission Campus in San Francisco. Expect live presentations from Rose Aguilar, Harry Shearer, NPR Correspondent Laura Sydell, and 99% Invisible’s Katie Mingle. Also, there will be live music performances, a live Minds Over Matter pub quiz, and a chance to make your own audio postcard with KALW sound designers and producers. There will also be opportunities to mingle with radio makers and podcasters from around the Bay Area, and, it wouldn’t be a party without cake. To attend, just make sure you've become a member of KALW sometime in 2015.
On Sunday, the National Parks Service invites you to attend a guided sunrise tour through Muir Woods National Monument. On the three-mile stroll, participants will be introduced to the local plant and animal residents, and learn the evolutionary history of Muir Woods. It’s a mostly flat walk with one steep section, and might not be appropriate for folks under 15 years of age. This is a free activity, but you do need to make a reservation ahead of time at (415) 388-2596.
Later on Sunday, legendary music nonprofit and all ages venue 924 Gilman launches their 1st Annual Reunion and Block Party. From 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., expect live music performances, a tour of the venue’s sound system and Q&A with 924 Gilman’s head of sound, a silent auction from the Oakland shop Broken Guitars, and it’s been rumored that the karaoke rickshaw will be there, ready to rock and roll. There will be record labels, book publishers, and other local businesses in attendance too, like the Berkeley Rent Board who will be available to answer tenant/landlord questions. The event is free, and all ages are welcome. The location is in the name: 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley. You can check out all of the details at helpgilman.org.
