Weekend Go-Tos for November 6, 2015

SOMArts' 2015 Día de Muertos exhibition closes on Saturday, November 7."

If you’re looking for suggestions of interesting things to do around the Bay Area this weekend, search no further, we’ve collected a few recommendations just for our KALW audience.

Are your succulents sucking? Your rose bushes less than rosy? Find out which diseases ail your plants at the free, monthly Sick Plant Clinic at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden happening from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. tomorrow. Entomologists will also available to identify the pests that are living in your plants. Please cover plants and disease samples in containers or bags before entering the garden.

Tomorrow, the San Francisco Women’s Building in the Mission District will host a day-long workshop about “Talking with Kids about Race.” The workshop outlines the difference between talking about skin color and talking about racism, race construction in America and what it means for us now, and what language to use with kids. You’ll need to get tickets ahead of time at womensbuilding.org/events. The workshop is for adults only.

And lastly, now in its 16th year, the annual Day of the Dead exhibition at SOMArts Cultural Center is on view, for free, through tomorrow. The exhibit merges traditional Mexican altars with contemporary art installations to remember and celebrate the dead. The exhibition will close with a big party happening tomorrow evening at SOMArts on Brannan Street in San Francisco, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Find out details at somarts.org.
