Here are a few suggestions of special events that you can attend happening around our fine Bay Area this weekend.
Tomorrow, The Cadillac Hotel in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District is throwing a neighborhood party and benefit concert, featuring over 11 bands and performers, including: Lavay Smith, Dirty Cello, and Wendy DeWitt. Admission is free, but they’ll also welcome donations for necessary upgrades that will soon happen on the building, which will affect other non-profits located near the hotel, like the Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center. The show is from noon to 6:00 p.m., in the lobby of the Cadillac Hotel at 380 Eddy Street. If you can't make it to the event and are interested in donating, you can find more information here.
Could you outsmart an octopus? Find out tomorrow at a lecture on octopi and other cephalopods happening at the Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito. Naturalists will be on hand to answer your questions about our squishy friends who call the bay water home, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. While you’re there, you’ll also have the chance to watch the bay water model in action too. Admission is free.
On Sunday, the CCSF mission campus hosts The Howard Zinn Bookfair, a celebration of the books that make us rethink our roles in the world and connect people with hidden histories. This year, the fair will feature 60 booksellers and close to 160 authors, along with local, national and international authors and activists, such as Rebecca Solnit, David Talbot, Rachel Cassandra, Lauren Gucik, David Zirin, the Revolutionary Poets Brigade, and a special reading of Terry Bisson’s screenplay Kansas Brown, featuring Peter Coyote. That’s this Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., at CCSF’s Mission Campus, located at 1125 Valencia Street.
